Description of Doll for Sale

This is a wonderful example of a Bleuette sized 11 inch Jumeau doll. The doll was made by Jumeau under contract for Au Nain Bleu which is a high end French toy store. This doll is referred to as a DEP Jumeau because it uses a head that Jumeau contracted Simon & Halbig to make which Jumeau put on Jumeau composition body.  By the late 1990's Jumeau's kiln did not have the capacity to fire all the heads they needed forcing them to buy heads from German makers. French import regulations required imported goods to be marked DEP (for Depose or registered). This leads to these dolls being called the DEP Jumeau's. The head is a version of Simon & Halbig 1079 mold. This doll was likely made in the late 1890's up the early 1900's when Jumeau stopped importing German heads.

In the mid 1800's Au Nain Bleu bought parts and assembled dolls and dressed them. By the early 1900's they were contracting other doll makers to produce entire dolls that they dressed and put their label on and sold as their own exclusive doll. The dolls satin outfit, wig and shoes are all original and were made by Au Nain Bleu for this doll. The outfit has two slips and a pair of bloomers.  The first slip has hand worked cut-work trim and the second has lace trim.  The shoes have tiny metal buttons with loop closures and silk bows.  The outfit shows Au Nain Bleu's obsession to spare no expense to make the highest quality doll they could.

She carries a stuffed dog which was a popular doll accessory in the late 1800's. She also has a very elaborate pin of gold or brass wire with attached glass flowers with enamel on brass leaves. The doll also has a brass or gold metal bracelet with a set in stone or glass jewel.  While not technically a Bleuette her size and the style of the clothing will fit in nicely in any Bleuette collection.

Condition of Doll for Sale

The bisque head is perfect with no chips, cracks or repairs. The body is in original condition with no crazing chipping or repaint and has it's original u Nain Bleu label.  The clothes are sewn on so I was not able to inspect all the joints for wear but what I can see says the joints have little to no wear.

damage2 damage1

The silk in the dresses skirt has become fragile and has started to split.  Most of this is on the sides under the hands.  There are also some pin holes in the waistband at the back.  (see pictures) You can click the pictures to see close-ups of the condition. The closeup pictures show some of the damage but I assume much of the material is similarly fragile and could be damaged especially along other folds in the material.

This is an antique doll that will have some wear and imperfections expected in an antique or vintage doll.  I make every effort to describe all significant flaws in my descriptions and show them in the pictures.  Please read the description fully and examine all the pictures to be sure you understand the condition of the doll.  The pictures can be enlarged to show the doll in great detail.  If you have any questions or would like any additional information on this doll please email me and I will be glad to answer your question.  California residents are responsible for California Sales tax in addition to the purchase price shown.
