Description of Doll for Sale

I am thrilled to present one of the cutest googly dolls I have ever seen.  This googly doll was made in Germany by Armand Marseille and is their 240 mold.  It is the closed head "Kewpie" version of this mold with 3 tufts of molded hair like a Kewpie doll.  This doll was an attempt by Armand Marseille to cash in on the Kewpie craze without paying royalties to Rose O'Neill.  This antique Kewpie is just 10 inches tall and was made in Germany around 1915.  It is also considered to be a nice example of a googly doll which was also immensely popular at the same time.

This Kewpie is all original with an original antique dress, panties, shoes and socks.  The knit socks have a very detailed lace pattern which is amazing for such a small piece.  This googly doll does have some condition issues that have negatively affected her price but do not have a big affect on her visual impact when displayed.  The right eye has a small repaired chip near the outside end of the lower eye lid.  The filled area is about the size of a ball point pen tip.  The color and texture of the fill does not exactly match the bisque.   In the top of the head the mold lines have picked up some dirt.  It is not clear if this is from dirt in the mold when the porcelain was molded or the dirt has become embedded in the lines latter.  I checked the head with a black-light and there are no hairlines.  The three molded hair tufts are not chipped or repaired but do have some paint wear and the wear has eroded some of the porcelain on the top knot.  (see pictures in the slide show)

This is an antique doll that will have some wear and imperfections expected in an antique or vintage doll.  I make every effort to describe all significant flaws in my descriptions and show them in the pictures.  Please read the description fully and examine all the pictures to be sure you understand the condition of the doll.  The pictures can be enlarged to show the doll in great detail.  If you have any questions or would like any additional information on this doll please email me and I will be glad to answer your question.  California residents are responsible for California Sales tax in addition to the purchase price shown.
