Description of Doll for Sale

I am pleased to have a vintage Kestner (JDK) bisque head baby for sale.  This doll has a closed head with painted hair using the face of the popular Kestner 211 mold often referred to as Sammy.  As is common with the Kestner closed head babies, there is no mold number but I have compared the face with marked 211 dolls and this doll definitely has Sammy's face molding. The doll is 13 inches tall and has set glass eyes.  The doll was made in Germany in the 1920's to 1930's.  The body is in it's original antique finish and has openings for a voice mechanism.  It looks like the mechanism was removed or displaced in the past when the doll was restrung.

Sammy has been redressed in a long christening gown and bonnet.  The clothes are well made using antique and vintage materials and trims. Under the dress are two slips and a pair of knit underpants.  There are also a pair of replacement satin tie shoes.  The dress is sewn on so I could not remove it to show all the details of the slips or the upper body.  I have checked the body as best I can under the dress and there are no issues in the shoulder joints or upper arms.

Condition of Doll for Sale

The bisque head is perfect with no chips, cracks or repairs.  The body has it's original finish with no repairs or repaint.  There are some dark scuffs on the body and head and 27 has been written on the torso.  It looks like the scuffs will come off but I have not tried cleaning them.

The original composition finish on the body has some bubbles especially on the hands.  There are also some chipping and flaking of the paint on the hands (see pictures). You can click the pictures to see close-ups of the condition.  There are no broken or repaired fingers or toes.  The dress and bonnet are sound with no stains, foxing, rips or repairs.

This is an antique doll that will have some wear and imperfections expected in an antique or vintage doll.  I make every effort to describe all significant flaws in my descriptions and show them in the pictures.  Please read the description fully and examine all the pictures to be sure you understand the condition of the doll.  The pictures can be enlarged to show the doll in great detail.  If you have any questions or would like any additional information on this doll please email me and I will be glad to answer your question.  California residents are responsible for California Sales tax in addition to the purchase price shown.
